Dealing with School Stress

TOP 3 THINGS TO DO IN PREPARATION FOR STRESSFUL SITUATIONS

STRESS (n): [stres] Physiology. a specific response by the body to a stimulus, as fear or pain, that disturbs or interferes with the normal physiological equilibrium of an organism.

In high school, students experience stress on a daily basis, from the extra curricular activities to the abundant number of tests within a week. So here are three steps to de-stress!

  1. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE: While it’s very hard to plan out the week when it comes to assignments, it is always the best idea to plan for the week ahead by going through your exam schedule and place time slots for studying in your planner.

  2. BUY A PLANNER: In the moment, you may think that you will be able to remember everything, homework, assignments, projects and tests, you won’t. It’s better to write everything down and be organized in a planner. Having a planner that separates your week into the five days allowed for you to be able to not only plan for you week, but write down all the assignments you need.

  3. TAKE A BREAK: Studying can be a tiring activity. So, for every hour you study, take a five-minute break. Check your phone, grab a healthy snack, or even do some exercises. But taking a break allows for you brain to take a break from working very hard and allows for you to avoid becoming too overwhelmed. After every break, you’ll feel very relaxed and you will be able to dedicate 100% of you attention to you study material during your hour long sessions. And don’t forget, over studying may be just as bad as not studying…so do everything in moderation.

Hope these tips help during the stressful week ahead. Best of luck in the school year!
